it's been a while
for one reason or another...
trips,
family events,
both happy and sad,
technical difficulties,
and other inconveniences;
the background noise to life.
no matter,
now I am home
and
ready to begin again.
this way please.

its been a funny old start to the year;
heartbreaking for many across this wide land,
leaving us all unsettled.
the road before us now is obscured in parts,
and none of us ever know
what lies ahead.

is to go forward.

and all through the house...
its (still) raining steadily outside.
making the lights seem twinklier.
the pressies are wrapped,
using brown kraft paper
stamped with vintage postal office stamps,
typed tags,
candy ribbon,
and a little holly.
the baking is done
and ready to share.
the quiet before the
joyous chaos
that is a big family christmas.
we can't wait.

I'm here to confess
I haven't really been feeling it yet.
christmas that is.
maybe its the weather -
all a bit unseasonal -
or maybe its just my inner scrooge.
(although I didn't know I had one).
humbug to that!
so I will drag myself (and maybe you?) into the festive spirit
by a little image,
or word or two
about christmas
and what it is to me.
there just so happens to be 12 days
til christmas.
so this should work nicely.

feel free to join in,
as I think that's the nice thing about christmas
it can be just as you want it to be.
(ie not the store packaged high octane tinsel wrapped
overload of excess)
but an excuse for a
very special
very silly
very spoilt
very simple
time with family & friends.

just because they've always been
magical
and indulgent,
which is everything christmas should be.

today is one of those restless days
when the heart aches

not that Brissie can really count
as the 'big smoke' -
its more that funny in-between that's neither here nor there.
we (the mister and I)
play make believes
of a little worker's cottage,
a vege garden,
and some ducks
(for some reason they're crucial to the picture).
its in a field of green
(like this)
but close to the ocean
and family.
friends come to stay
for weekends
and there's long lunches around the wobbly long table
under the trees.
one day.
sometimes the imagining of one's dream
is enough.
